Hello, my name is Ethan Hohnke and I am a landscape and nature photographer based in Leelanau County, Michigan. I developed a sincere passion for photography that started with watching sunsets on the beach when I was younger, particularly with my grandma. I am self taught and over time have developed my skills and approach to photography.
I have held numerous jobs throughout my working career, many of which required working long or odd hours, often third shift, requiring many overnight stints. By the grace of God, I have witnessed many beautiful sunrises and sunsets, jaw dropping storm clouds roll in from Lake Michigan and everything in between that rural Michigan has to offer. Combining these experiences, I’ve developed somewhat of a drop what I’m doing mentality whenever the sky looks like its going to be a vivid sunset or a storm cell is approaching the vicinity. I do my best to capture a particular landscape as the human eye sees it.
I also do not use artificial intelligence in creating my images. Within my portfolio, I intentionally list the time, date, camera equipment, and camera settings used to capture a given image with the intent to provide transparency in photography. With the rise of AI, it gives users the ability to generate scenes in a few clicks, without even leaving the house. That is not my style, a lot of the fun comes from the adventure of being out.
